Week 10: UE
Yes, I almost spent the whole week working on Unreal Engine. The only annoying part was my laptop sounding like a helicopter most of the time. Still, during this week I discovered some things that were quite different from what I had been told before.
Unreal Engine has a strong physics system. For example, when I made a flying drone and moved it forward, the drone still kept moving for a short time after I stopped the controller. It had inertia, which felt more realistic. You can adjust the weight of the drone to change this behavior and make the movement feel right.
Another thing that surprised me was the APK size. I packaged a simple VR interaction demo and the APK was only 19 MB, which is much smaller than I expected.
Unreal Engine is famous for technologies like Lumen lighting and Nanite mesh rendering. However, I did not see these features in the Android build. I guess they are mainly for PCVR. I still need to look into this further.
