Madrid Vibes & Masterpieces at the Prado ๐ช๐ธ๐จ
Finally arrived in Madrid! ๐ After a bit of a rainy start that left all my clothes soaked, I had to get creative. My hostel offers laundry for โฌ9, which is a lifesaver, but while everything was in the wash, I had to go out for breakfast wearing the only dry things I had left: a swimsuit and a winter jacket. ๐๐งฅ Quite the fashion statement for the Spanish winter!

First Impressions: The City ๐๏ธ
Walking around the city center, Madrid feels surprisingly brand new. Despite being the capital for over 400 years, itโs all wide roads and grand, polished buildings rather than ancient ruins.

- Palacio Real de Madrid: They say itโs one of the largest palaces in Europe, but honestly? It felt a bit compact! The gardens are beautiful though, and completely free to wander. ๐ณ

- Parque de el Retiro: This is the heart of the city. Thereโs a massive square lake, street musicians filling the air with tunes, and tons of locals jogging. Itโs the perfect spot to decompress. ๐ถ๐โโ๏ธ
The Main Event: Museo del Prado ๐ผ๏ธโจ
The Prado is conveniently located right near the park. Pro tip: tickets are free after 18:00, but the line was absolutely massive, so I opted to pay the โฌ15 the next day to actually have time to see it.
Here is the lowdown on the Prado experience:

-
Itโs Huge: I spent 4 hours wandering through the galleries and still didnโt see everything. The scale of the collection is mind-blowing! ๐คฏ
-
The Tech Struggle: Warning! There is almost zero data signal inside. I wanted to use AI as my personal tour guide, but the signal just wouldnโt cooperate. Luckily, the special exhibition area has free Wi-Fi! ๐ถ
-
No Photos Allowed: This was a bit frustrating. The Prado is very strict about camerasโeven if youโre just trying to snap a photo of the name tag to know the artist. ๐ซ๐ธ I believe museums should be about spreading knowledge, but they are very old-school here. I think museum should provide multiple options for different people. For example, I am more interested in the materials on the artwork than the story of it. The modern AI can do that.

- The Best Hack: Since my AI plan failed, I downloaded MuseMuse. Itโs a free walking tour app and the experience was a solid 5 stars! โญโญโญโญโญ Highly recommend it for navigating the maze of masterpieces.
A Note on Spanish Food & Travel ๐ฅ๐

- The Diet: Spanish food is tasty, but Iโm desperately craving some green! I wish theyโd throw a few more onions or tomatoes into the mix. ๐ฅ

-
Transport Lessons: I headed to Atocha station only to find my train was cancelled due to recent railway maintenance. I booked through Trip.com, and while they emailed me, the messages were all in Spanish and I thought they were just ads! ๐ฉโ
-
Pro Tip: Always book through the official railway website. Third-party apps like Omio or Trip.com are a nightmare when it comes to getting refunds for cancellations. Luckily, I stayed calm and booked a bus instead. This isnโt my first rodeo with cancelled trains on this trip! ๐๐จ
