1944 (2015)

1944 is a powerful WWII movie that captures a unique part of Estonian history — a time when the country was caught fighting on both sides of the war.

The story begins with Estonian soldiers fighting under the German army retreating from Narva, and later story shifts to those serving in the Soviet forces advancing toward Saaremaa.

Unlike many war films that try to cover too much and lose focus, 1944 keeps its narrative clear and human. Despite featuring three languages — Estonian, German, and Russian — the story remains easy to follow and emotionally engaging.

🎬 A must-watch for anyone interested in WWII history or Estonia’s complex past.
